Why Restore Bukidnon’s Forests?
Climate Change and Environmental Degradation
The impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly evident in the mountainous province of Bukidnon, Southern Philippines. The region experiences two difficult rainy and dry seasons, strong winds, and longer periods of drought and heavier rains. Deforestation and biodiversity loss have emerged as key threats, with devastating implications for culture, youth, and livelihoods.

Carbon Sequestration Potential
The proposed project area in Sitio Kibuwa, Barangay Impalutao, Impasug-ong Municipality, Bukidnon Province, is currently covered in tropical grasslands and shrublands. However, this land would have naturally been covered in tropical moist broadleaf forest before anthropogenic changes. The project site has strong carbon sequestration potential, with the vegetation slowly regenerating on the site. This potential is significant, despite the relatively small project area.

Community Engagement and Local Support
The local community is already using a small portion of the land for agricultural activities, which are expected to have minimal impact on the project's carbon potential. The CCCO2 Philippine Corporation team has demonstrated a deep understanding of the local ecosystem and has a small but efficient nursery to support the restoration efforts.

Regulatory Landscape and Expansion Opportunities
The Philippines is planning to create harmonized regulations for Article 6 and VCM credits by the third quarter of 2024. This could provide much-needed clarity and attract more investment to the project. Additionally, the team has identified the potential to expand the project area to include a further 12,000 hectares belonging to other indigenous communities in Bukidnon.

Commitment to a Sustainable Future
The CCCO2 Corporation team is dedicated to making this project a success. With the right support and regulations, they believe their project can have a significant impact on mitigating climate change in the Philippines. Their commitment to a sustainable future is evident in their efforts to restore and protect the forests, which will not only sequester carbon but also support habitat, watershed restoration, land-soil quality improvement, and landscape beauty enhancement.

Conclusion
Restoring Bukidnon's forests is a crucial step towards mitigating climate change and preserving the region's biodiversity. The project's carbon sequestration potential, community engagement, regulatory support, and expansion opportunities make it a promising initiative for a sustainable future. With the right support and regulations, this project can make a significant impact on climate change mitigation in the Philippines.
We look forward to connecting with you and discussing how we can work together to restore Bukidnon's forests and combat climate change. Your support can make a real difference.
